Welcome to the 5th Money Hacks Carnival! We’ve had some awesome submissions this week which I am excited to present to you. This is the first carnival that I’ve hosted, so be gentle! I’m so pleased to present the Money Hacks Carnival #5 - Fashion Edition.

If there’s one thing that I completely love and don’t allow myself to embrace fully, it’s fashion. I am totally in love with haute couture. Some people think that fashion is totally over the top, others consider it an art and full of expression. I find myself in the middle. And since I can’t actually buy any of the amazing stuff out there, I will live vicariously through carnivals… ehm. We’ll explore some opinions on fashion along the way.

On to the carnival!

Editor’s Picks

“Fashions fade, style is eternal.” - Yves Saint Laurent

Yves Saint LaurentPaidTwice wrote about how her perspective has changed regarding the media and advertisements since increasing her own financial awareness in Critical Thinking and the Media - Awareness Brings a New Eye. I’ve written about this as well and feel so strongly when I fid someone else shares my viewpoint.

Financial Learn wrote My Dad - Frugal, Generous and My Hero, which is a beautiful testiment to how great financial parenting can lean a young individual to incredible prosperity. I love this story! I wish I had learned such valuable lessons before going into debt and find this story very inspiring.

Foxie at Dreaming of Ferreris wrote about defining enough for herself as she’s reading through Your Money or Your Life. I think we need to all look at this perspective and think about what’s enough for us :)
Free From Broke wrote about why getting a large tax refund is bad. Oh, I so agree! I am so happy that this has been written :) It’s right along with my personal values and I really enjoyed the post. It’s YOUR money!

Dorian at The Personal Financier wrote a wonderful post with seven tips for buying a new home, entitled How To Make Sure This Is Your Dream Home. As Sean continues to look for a house to buy, these kinds of posts become more and more dear to my heart - and this lists a bunch of helpful info along the way.

Career

“Fashion is only the attempt to realize art in living forms and social intercourse.” - Sr. Francis Bacon

Satoshi SaikusaCassie at Conscious Flex wrote a great long post about How to Find Your Passion and Make It Your Career - a worthwhile read.

BeThisWay wrote about the rising cost of food in Time To Increase the Grocery Budget. Or Eat A Lot Less.

Lisa at Greener Pastures: Personal Finance wrote about the “recession” and how the slowed economy has affected her thus far in Recession R Us. I personally do not believe we’re in a recession, nor that we’ll be in one, but a simple economic slow down still can show us these money issues in play.

Income

“The only rule is don’t be boring and dress cute wherever you go. Life is too short to blend in.” - Paris Hilton

Dior ColorIn a brilliant post called Financial Security: How you feel it? KCLau wrote about what “financial security” means and how it has a different interpretation for each of us. Prime Time Money wrote an awesome post all about the $1 DVD rental machines - if you want to save money on rentals, check this post out!

Pinyo at Moolanomy reviews the online savings option called SmartyPig in SmartyPig Teaches Your Children About Saving For Financial Goals. This is a great review that weighs all the pros and cons of the system - I’d never heard of the website before and am glad to have read this :)

The whole trip cost only 50 euros and the author wrote about how having a “no budget” plan can keep you from spending hardly anything.

FinanceGirl at Finance Gets Personal asked us Why Does Dave Ramsey Push Identity-Theft Insurance? I’ve left my opinion in the comments… I encourage you to do the same.

  6. Bryce on March 26th, 2008 8:20 am

Thanks so much, Shanti, for including my post. The fashion theme is great, although I am not sure what “compliment” I would use if my wife were to wear the outfit that the model is wearing above my post. Probably something like, “You look maaaaavelous,” and then turn and run. :-)

  7. Pete on March 26th, 2008 8:55 am

@ Lisa - You’re welcome! I think it’s more important to have open discussion than wage war over PF conversations ;)
@ FreeFromBroke - That’s the joy of a traveling carnival… with a different host each week, you never know what will get in the Editor’s Picks because each person prefers their own flavor of PF blog post. I’m glad you’re happy :)
@ Bryce - But of course! Hahahahaaa! She’d say “dahling, you look gohrghous!” And then run. Yeah, actually, probably she’d run first and say nothing…
