I just came across the co-working wiki! How neat!
For those people who work at home but really need a more structured environment to work in, enter co-working. You pay to use the space, somewhat like renting an office except that you share it with a bunch of other people that you’re not working with! I LOVE this concept. There’s a strong community in Seattle by the looks of it, but I’m not interested in paying the money just yet. At some point, when I’m maybe making $70k/year on all these small businesses, I think it would be a worthy use of my money, especially if I’m still just me, running things. Having an office would be nice.
No matter how great working at home is, sometimes a little structure is all you need to become that much more productive. This week I’ve been staying at my mom’s house to take care of her dogs while she’s out of town. And for me, “working at home” does not translate to “can work anywhere, anytime.” I CAN do a lot with just my laptop, but in my job for MSL I need to be in my workspace.
So though I work from home, I’ve been commuting to work (my own apartment) all week and it is astounding to me how much more productive I’ve been. Somehow the act of getting up and going somewhere gears me up for work.
This makes me think that I should start going for a short walk every morning before work just to get the blood moving. And this is why I think maybe if I become more of a powerhouse work-at-homer, I might want to try co-working. Yay!

Hmm…maybe something like this could keep me out of the cafe for hours on end! I spend way to much time (and money) buying junk there because I feel guilty just sitting there hogging internet connections.
Co-working, what a weird idea! But kinda cool too
