Four days ago I wrote about how I will practice simplicity and extreme frugality for one month.

My Progress So Far

Quinoa Salad

Has it only been three days?! Oh my! It feels like it’s been a lot longer. I thought this challenge would be hard in the food department, but I had no idea. I almost never cook, and in the last three days (seriously? only three?) I’ve had to actually USE the dry goods in my cupboards. Some of this non-perishable stuff I’ve had since 2004 - how did I manage to hold on to it for so long?? I surprise myself ;)
I had rice pilaf last night and tonight I had curry-flavored quinoa and veggies… and I have enough left over for tomorrow! Hooray! I don’t think I’ve been so excited about leftovers ever before. I am also hoarding a lot more (OK, I won’t eat two granola bars because I’ll want one tomorrow) and eating a lot less as a result. I’ve never known what it was like to be conservative with food and so this is a serious adventure for me, people.

I think I’ve also found that the minute I cut myself off from something completely - such as “fun money” - the more reasons I find to use it! I have found six books in the last three days that I really would like to buy. BeingFrugal’s Lynnae shared that her shopping weakness is books. Mine is books too, right up there with clothing and SHOES. Which reminds me… I have a post about that!

Summary?

This is an adventure, all right! I don’t know how I’m going to make it a full month. Maybe I’m crazy.

I need to buy more fresh fruit and vegetables. Must add to errand list for tomorrow.

You can do it! I’m really impressed with your goal! Hopefully it will get easier as the month goes on!

I hope so! I’m having fun trying to make it work, regardless of the outcome, and that’s always the best thing.

    Thanks!
